Let me Make A Few Steps Again

“When I rest I feel utterly lifeless except that my throat burns when I draw breath… I can scarcely go on. No despair, no happiness, no anxiety. I have not lost the mastery of my feelings, there are actually no more feelings. I consist only of will. After each few meters this too fizzles out in unending tiredness. Then I think nothing. I let myself fall, just lie there. For an indefinite time I remain completely irresolute. Then I make a few steps again.” – Reinhold Messner

Derek Nelson (a good buddy) sent me this quote. It was not the first time I read it. But it is the first time I can fully understand it.

Reinhold Messner is the first man to summit Mt Everest and all fourteen 8,000 meter peaks without oxygen. As I reread his quote the words resonate with me. On this journey, I have let myself fall, just collapsed on the path. No feelings, no thoughts, yet somehow a will to go on, a will I attribute to everyone’s love and support! So, I thank you!

I’m 4 hours from leaving for the summit of Mt Everest “The Top Of The World” and it has been a life changing and humbling experience! It’s impossible not to reconnect with nature in these mountains or any mountains for that matter. To feel apart of this world, on a basic level,(connected to the universe) call it whatever you prefer, spirituality, energy, karma…… either way, it’s amazing what you see, hear, and feel, when you disconnect from our modern world and I am so grateful for this experience!!

Summit or no summit I have found what I was Looking for…Happiness!!

Now, let me make a few more steps! – Chad Gaston

  1. So said the Lama…. happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions! Sending you strength, good weather, and peace for your last steps to the Top!!! Cheers and Pura Vida

  7. Based on an Alexa report I believe that the team has reached the summit. I don’t want to celebrate yet until there are further confirmations. Still pulling hard for Chad and the tram!!

  8. I tried to comment a couple of times on this blog, but I don’t see my entries after I post. Going to try a different approach. I had previously written “Amen! Soft winds, solid footing, and continued strength and will. You have found what you were looking for. You have arrived. Now go get a little more!”

As of this writing I know that the team has reached the summit and returned to camp 4. It goes without saying that those in my little camp that have been tracking you are thrilled!!! Stay safe during the descents! You now have SO much to share. I’m sure that your life has changed. Be well and get your butt home!

  9. I’ve had troubles getting my comments to stick during the last couple of posts and am trying a new approach. When I originally saw this post I sent “Amen!
